Since the early days of researching omega-3s, it’s been well known within the scientific and medical communities that people need to be aware of their blood-thinning power. Think of omega-3s as nature’s blood thinner, a kind of “Goldilocks factor” that lets the blood clot when it should but not when it should not. But whether they can make someone bleed excessively has always been debated. In this webinar, we will cover prior research as well as a brand new meta-analysis showing that omega-3s are not associated with bleeding risk.
Course Overview:
- What prior research shows regarding omega-3 and bleeding risk
- New systematic review and meta-analysis published in the Journal of the American Heart Associationon omega-3 and bleeding risk
- How to talk to your patients if they have concerns about omega-3 and bleeding risk
- How testing can help patients monitor their omega-3 level so they are taking the appropriate dose
- Strategies for improving your Omega-3 Index
Course Leader:
William S. Harris, PhD, FASN, President, Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI) & Founder, OmegaQuant Analytics
Dr. Harris, President of the Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI), has been a leading researcher in the omega-3 fatty acid field for over 40 years. He has more than 360 scientific papers on fatty acids and health, the vast majority on omega-3. He has been on the faculty of three medical schools (Universities of Kansas, Missouri (at Kansas City), and South Dakota), and has received 8 NIH grants to study omega-3. He was the co-author on three American Heart Association (AHA) statements on fatty acids and heart health. As the co-inventor of the Omega-3 Index (and other omega-3 blood tests) and founder of OmegaQuant Analytics, Dr. Harris has been ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide based on the impact of his research.
