Specialized pro-resolving mediators, also called SPMs, are powerful metabolites the human body converts from omega-3 EPA and DHA to support normal inflammation resolution. Unlike omega-3s in general, which mainly help reduce inflammation over time, SPMs are the active molecules that directly resolve it. They’re like targeted signals that tell your immune system, “Okay, the job is done—let’s clean up and restore balance.” The discovery of the SPMs has been an exciting area of research lead by Dr. Charles Serhan and colleagues at Harvard University over the last 20 years. During this webinar, Dr. Bill Harris will discuss these important nutrients and what they can do for your health.

Course Overview:

  • A brief history of SPMs
  • How SPMs are created
  • What SPMs do in the body to benefit your health
  • The research highlights on SPMs
  • What to look for in products that contain SPMs

Course Leader:

William S. Harris, PhD, FASN, President, Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI) & Founder, OmegaQuant Analytics

Dr. Harris, President of the Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI), has been a leading researcher in the omega-3 fatty acid field for over 40 years. He has more than 360 scientific papers on fatty acids and health, the vast majority on omega-3. He has been on the faculty of three medical schools (Universities of Kansas, Missouri (at Kansas City), and South Dakota), and has received 8 NIH grants to study omega-3. He was the co-author on three American Heart Association (AHA) statements on fatty acids and heart health. As the co-inventor of the Omega-3 Index (and other omega-3 blood tests) and founder of OmegaQuant Analytics, Dr. Harris has been ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide based on the impact of his research.
